Global raw steel production decreases

Global raw steel production decreased by 3.4 percent in February compared to the same month last year, mainly due to the decline in China’s production, reaching 144.7 million tons. The World Steel Association, headquartered in Brussels, released the raw steel production data for February. According to the report, global raw steel production fell by 3.4 percent in the second month of the year compared to February 2024, totaling 144.7 million tons. The noticeable decline in February was China, the world’s largest steel producer, whose production dropped by 3.3 percent to 78.9 million tons. Japan’s production also decreased by 8.5 percent to 6.4 million tons. It was estimated that in February, raw steel production decreased by 7 percent to 6 million tons in the United States and by 13.5 percent to 2.7 million tons in Germany. In Brazil, raw steel production was expected to decrease by 1.6 percent to 2.7 million tons, and in Russia by 3.4 percent to 5.8 million tons. During the same period, India’s production increased by 6.3 percent to 21.8 million tons, while Iran’s production decreased by 24.1 percent to 1.7 million tons. Turkey’s raw steel production in February decreased by 5.6 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 2.9 million tons.
