One of the products most affected by the agricultural frost, which impacted 36 provinces, is hazelnuts. The President of the Giresun Commodity Exchange, Hamza Bölük, stated, “The snowfall in April followed by frost caused serious damage. This needs to be assessed. However, looking at it today, it is possible to say that around 15-20% of hazelnuts have been lost.” Bölük said the hazelnut yield, which is approximately 800,000 tons, has decreased to 600,000 tons due to frost.

INCREASE IN HAZELNUT PRICES EXPECTED Bölük, pointing out that the yield loss will have a negative impact on hazelnut prices, said, “This will have a reflection on consumers. An increase in price is expected due to the scarcity of the product. We saw an increase of up to 20% in prices in two days. The continuation of this increase is possible. Consumers will also consume hazelnuts at a higher price.” Bölük emphasized the importance of TARSİM insurance for farmers not to be affected by such situations. Calling for support from authorities, Bölük stated, “If there are gardens that need to be assessed and renewed, support for renewal is needed; if not, fertilizer and pesticide support is needed to prevent mineral losses in the soil.”
