The Federal Reserve (Fed) reported a loss of $77.6 billion in activity in 2024. The bank published its audited financial statements for the year 2024. According to this, Fed’s operational loss was estimated at $77.6 billion last year. In 2023, the bank had also reported a loss of $114.3 billion. It is noteworthy that the size of Fed’s loss decreased during this period. In the latest report, Fed had returned to profit in 2022, reporting a $58.8 billion profit. The bank’s interest expenses dropped to $226.8 billion last year. This amount had been recorded at $281.1 billion in 2023. Interest income decreased from $174.5 billion in 2023 to $158.8 billion last year. During this period, Fed’s losses were influenced by the rise in inflation in 2022 and 2023 following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, leading to the bank raising interest rates to control inflation.
