Fed Interest Rate Decision: Federal Reserve Keeps Interest Rates Stable

The Federal Reserve (Fed) decided to keep the policy interest rate unchanged at 4.25-4.50%, with a vote of 11 to 1. According to the decision, Christopher Waller supported keeping the policy interest rate stable, but preferred to continue the current reduction pace in securities holdings. The statement indicated that the federal funds rate target range was kept stable at 4.25-4.50% to support the bank’s objectives. In January, the Fed halted interest rate cuts after lowering the policy rate for the first time in four years in September last year by 50 basis points. Following 25 basis point reductions in November and December last year, the Fed paused its interest rate cuts in January after three consecutive reductions in the previous year. In the United States, inflation, after reaching the highest level since 1981 at 9% on an annual basis in June 2022, was recorded at 2.8% on an annual basis in February.
