Farewell to the Seas: Fishing Ban Begins

Fishermen in the Aegean Region will bid farewell to the fishing season on April 15th. This year, fishermen who caught the most sardines and anchovies will finish the season with more fish than last year. The fishing season, which started on September 1st, is coming to an end in the Aegean region. About 1,800 fishermen in the region are working intensely as the season, which will end on April 15th, draws to a close. Setting off in the choppy waters of the sea with a “In the name of Allah”, fishermen chase after the treasures of the deep sea and turn their catches into seafood products at the seafood market in Izmir. The fish are then distributed to all corners of Turkey and overseas. During this fishing season, Aegean fishermen delivered the most sardines and anchovies to the market. Although fishermen had a fruitful fishing season in the first four months of the season, their catch decreased after January due to the increase in wind and water temperature.
