Famous bank makes a major mistake: Accidentally transferring 6 billion dollars

A world-renowned bank, Citi, accidentally transferred 6 billion dollars to a customer account. An employee of the U.S.-based bank Citigroup mistakenly transferred 6 billion dollars to the customer’s account. The bank employee copied the account number and pasted it into the field for the amount to be sent accidentally. The error was discovered on the next business day. The bank stated that the input error was identified and corrected, with no impact on the bank or the customer. Financial Times reported last week that Citigroup accidentally deposited 81 trillion dollars instead of 280 trillion dollars into a customer’s account and it took hours to reverse the transaction. Bloomberg announced that both errors occurred in April. Following the first reported incident, Citi implemented measures to eliminate manual processes in money transfers.
