Exceeding 3 million tons of flour exports expected this year

Eren Günhan Ulusoy, the Eurasia President of the International Association of Flour Millers and Grain Traders (IAOM), stated that they aim to export more than 3 million tons of flour this year, saying, “We will maintain our world championship title in global flour exports.” In a written statement for World Flour Day on March 20th, Ulusoy highlighted the critical role of the industry in feeding the world’s population and emphasized that flour is one of the most important staple foods. Ulusoy pointed out that the flour industry has been the world export champion in its field for 10 years, with 508 flour factories in 69 provinces operating at an annual wheat processing capacity of 32 million tons. He estimated that the capacity utilization rate in the sector will remain around 50% by 2025, leaving approximately 50% of production capacity idle. Ulusoy acknowledged that despite wheat import restrictions and increased logistic costs, they closed 2024 with more than 3 million tons of flour exports, and they intend to exceed 3 million tons this year as well, maintaining their world championship title in global flour exports. Ulusoy reported a 290% increase in the export of grains, pulses, and oilseeds to Palestine, amounting to $107 million in the first two months of the year due to restrictions on wheat imports. He noted that the flour sector played a significant role in this increase, with flour exports to Palestine reaching 36,000 tons last year. However, in the first two months of this year, flour exports to Palestine tripled to 11,000 tons, reaching $4.6 million. Ulusoy assured that the flour industry will continue to meet the needs of Palestine.
