European Union to Strongly React to US Taxes

President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that they will respond firmly to the decision of the US to impose a tariff on steel and aluminum imports. Following the US decision to impose a 25% customs duty on steel and aluminum imports, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen made a written statement. Expressing deep regret over the US decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum exports, von der Leyen noted that tariffs mean taxes and will negatively affect businesses as well as consumers. Von der Leyen stated, “Unfair tariffs on the EU will not go unanswered. Strong and proportionate countermeasures will be taken against unjust tariffs.” Indicating that the EU will take action to protect its economic interests, von der Leyen emphasized that they will protect workers, businesses, and consumers in Europe.
