EU to Provide 920 Million Euros in Chip Support from Germany

The European Union will provide 920 million euros in funding for the establishment of a chip factory by Germany’s chip producer Infineon. The European Union (EU) has approved the 920 million euro support for the chip manufacturing facility to be set up in Germany. The EU Commission announced that the measures to support the construction of Infineon’s new chip production facility in Dresden, Germany, were found to be in line with EU state aid rules. According to the statement, it is expected that as a result of the measure, Infineon will complete its project to produce a wide variety of chips, and the new production facility will enhance the EU’s chip production capacity and strengthen the supply chain. The statement mentioned that the factory is planned to reach full production capacity by 2031, with 920 million euros in grant aid being provided to support the company’s 3.5 billion euro investment. The authority to determine how member countries provide state aid falls under the jurisdiction of the EU Commission. Member countries can only provide state aid in a way that does not harm competition and is in the public interest.
