The European Union has postponed the measures planned in response to the US steel and aluminum tariffs until mid-April to allow time for negotiations. Maros Sefcovic, the European Commission’s Commissioner for Trade, spoke at the International Trade Committee of the European Parliament about the trade issues between the EU and the US. Sefcovic stated that they will harmonize the timing of the two sets of measures prepared by the EU against the US steel and aluminum tariffs, consult with member states during this process, and gain time for negotiations with the US side. If an agreement cannot be reached, Sefcovic mentioned that the EU will readjust its response, taking into account the new retaliatory tariffs that the US administration will implement on April 2, stating that this approach would allow for a strong, proportionate, robust, and well-calibrated response.
