Speaking at the “Kayseri Defense Industry Provincial Meetings” organized by the Kayseri Chamber of Industry (KAYSO), KAYSO President Mehmet Büyüksimitçi announced that a Space, Aviation, and Defense Specialized Industrial Zone will be established in the city with a $1.6 billion investment. TECHNOLOGY AND DEFENSE-FOCUSED INDUSTRIAL ZONE During the meeting attended by Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün, it was stated that the giant facility will be built on a 3.4 million square meter area and that the preliminary feasibility studies have been completed. According to this report, the cost of establishing the Industrial Zone will be approximately $1.6 billion. Emphasizing the need for an increase in technological production in his speech, KAYSO President Büyüksimitçi highlighted that the main objectives of the project are to produce high-tech products and increase the localization rate in the defense industry. WHAT ARE HIGH-TECH PRODUCTS? Products produced using advanced scientific knowledge and innovative technologies are considered high-tech. Examples of such products include satellite systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, space research equipment, radar and communication systems, advanced weapon systems, microchips, semiconductors, smartphones, and high-performance computers. $72 MILLION TURNOVER Giving a presentation to business people at the meeting, Defense Industry President Haluk Görgün stated that 55 companies operating in the defense industry sector in Kayseri achieved a turnover of $72 million in 2024. Mentioning the importance of closely following the support and incentives provided by the Defense Industry Presidency, Görgün expressed their intention to obtain concrete results in Kayseri and to see the efforts bear fruit. Providing information about the defense industry ecosystem, current projects, and future vision, the President of the Defense Industry emphasized the city’s potential by stating, “We know that Kayseri can take on more responsibility in the defense industry sector.” It is estimated that the establishment of the Industrial Zone will not only enable the production of a wide range of products from systems that can be used in space research to military vehicles and daily technological needs but also create a significant employment area in the city.
