Era of Indigenous and National Metro Lines

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, conducted a test run of the Gebze OSB-Darica metro line. Uraloglu stated that a new era has begun in metros, saying, “From now on, our metro lines will be entirely national and local.” According to Uraloglu, the Gebze OSB-Darica Metro Line is the first metro line constructed as a product of Turkish engineering and technology. Uraloglu emphasized that a new era has started in metro line constructions in Turkey Century, mentioning that everything in our metro lines, from the construction stage to the electrification and signaling stages, will be national and local with the vehicles working on them. Uraloglu pointed out that the total length of urban rail system lines completed by the ministry and made available to the public nationwide is 434 kilometers. Minister Uraloglu provided information on ongoing projects, stating that construction of a total of 73.4 kilometers of urban rail system lines is ongoing in Kocaeli, Istanbul, and Bursa, including the Gebze OSB-Darica Coastal Line. Uraloglu highlighted that the ministry continues to prepare projects for a total of 4 separate urban rail system lines, with a combined length of 67 kilometers in Ankara, Sakarya, and Trabzon. He also mentioned that the total length of urban rail system lines built by the ministry will reach 634 kilometers with the ongoing and planned projects. Uraloglu announced that the ongoing construction of the 15.4-kilometer Gebze OSB-Darica Coastal Line is being built as a double track, with a design speed of 90 kilometers and 11 stations, it will be able to serve 330,000 passengers daily. This line will connect the densely populated areas between the Gebze Organized Industrial Zone and Darica Coast with metro comfort. Uraloglu expressed the goal of completing all work on the metro line by the second half of 2026, aiming to provide economic gain of more than 2.734 billion euros over a 25-year projection period. He also stated that when the metro line with an 80% indigenous rate is completed, the vehicles will operate without drivers.
