American billionaire and head of DOGE, Elon Musk, warned that the country will go bankrupt if nothing is done about the budget deficit. Musk also claimed that some individuals receiving Social Security payments are actually 150 years old. Elon Musk, the American billionaire, shared his evaluations about the activities of the Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) in the Oval Office. Musk emphasized that the goal of DOGE is to restore democracy, stating that without a good feedback movement from the people to the government and the dominance of bureaucracy, democracy will lose its meaning. Musk said, “If people cannot vote and cannot ensure that their will is determined by elected representatives such as the President, Senate, and House of Representatives, then we are not living in a democracy, but in a bureaucracy.” Emphasizing the need for accountability of bureaucracy to the public, Musk expressed the importance of addressing the budget deficit. Musk warned that if nothing is done about the budget deficit, the country’s bankruptcy will loom. Pointing out that interest payments on national debt exceed the budget of the Department of Defense, Musk said, “We are spending a lot on defense. But if this continues, we will bankrupt the country.” Musk commented, “Reducing federal spending is not optional for us, it is a necessity.” Musk also mentioned some of the findings of DOGE, expressing their puzzlement at the fact that many people in the bureaucracy seemingly earning a few hundred thousand dollars while somehow accumulating tens of millions of dollars in wealth in their positions. Musk stressed the need for basic controls in the US Treasury, noting that the lack of categorization in payments prevents ministries from being audited. Musk said, “If money is spent poorly, if taxpayers’ money is not spent in a reasonable approval process, then that is not right. Taxes should be spent wisely on things that matter to people. This is just common sense, not cruel or radical.” Additionally, Musk alleged that some individuals receiving Social Security payments are actually 150 years old. When asked about criticisms that the government is being “organically taken over” and that it is doing so in a non-transparent manner, Musk responded, “People voted for a major government reform and will achieve it.”
