Elon Musk Offers $97 Billion for OpenAI

A clash between two tech giants took place as American billionaire and the world’s richest person, Elon Musk, led a group of investors to make a $97.4 billion offer to acquire the developer of the Artificial Intelligence ChatGPT, OpenAI. However, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman rejected the offer by saying, “If you want, I can buy Twitter for $9.75 billion.”
Elon Musk headed a group of investors that made an offer to acquire the developer of ChatGPT, OpenAI. The claim was initially reported yesterday in the American publication The Wall Street Journal. Attorneys for Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and social media platform X, conveyed the offer of $97.4 billion to the board of directors of OpenAI. According to Musk’s attorney, the American billionaire believes that OpenAI needs to return to its former “open-source, security-focused, and serving the public good” state.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman declined Musk’s offer through his platform X by saying, “No, thank you. But if you want, we can buy Twitter for $9.74 billion.” He used the previous name “Twitter” instead of X. Musk responded to this post by calling it a “scam.” OpenAI was established in 2015 as a non-profit entity by many people, including Elon Musk and Sam Altman. Musk left the board in 2018.
