Dual-income receivers are wondering: Will those who retired after 2008 be able to work? Will the period of receiving both wages and retirement pension end?

Changes in the working system are on the agenda for those who retired after 2008. In the current system, retirees who continued to work could receive their pensions with certain deductions. However, it is being discussed that this situation may change with new regulations, making it harder to both receive a retirement pension and work simultaneously. So, will those who retired after 2008 be able to work? Will the period of receiving both wages and retirement pension end? The new arrangements regarding retirement are of particular interest to those who retired after October 1, 2008. Significant changes for those who retire and continue to work concern millions of people. While it is wondered if the Social Security Institution (SGK) has made a new regulation on this matter, the roadmap for retirees receiving dual incomes remains a big question mark. Many citizens in Turkey continue to work after retiring. Answering the agenda questions, Prof. Dr. Cem Kılıç, a faculty member at TOBB ETU, stated, “When one retires, there will not be an opportunity, like in the case of EYT (those demanding fair pension), to receive both a salary and a retirement pension at the same time. In fact, this has been in place since October 1, 2008. There is a provision in the Law No. 5510; it is not something new.”October 1, 2008, is the date on which the Social Security Reform came into effect in Turkey, bringing radical changes to the social security system. With this reform, under the umbrella of the Social Security Institution (SGK), SSK (Social Security Institution), Bağ-Kur (Social Security for the Self-Employed), and Retirement Fund were merged under one roof, and retirement conditions and insurance premiums were reorganized. With the Law No. 5510 on Social Security and General Health Insurance in effect as of October 1, 2008, the retirement age was gradually increased, while the number of days of premium payment for workers (SSK) was raised to 7200, and for artisans and farmers (Bağ-Kur) to 9000.
