Deutsche Telekom to Release “Artificial Intelligence Phone”

The German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom (DT) announced that it will produce an “AI Phone” equipped with Perplexity’s artificial intelligence assistant Magenta AI. The device, which is yet to be named, will be launched for sale in 2026. DT held a press conference at the Mobile World Congress hosted in Barcelona, where they made significant announcements regarding their future plans. Claudia Nemat, a member of the board of directors speaking on behalf of the company, stated that they have made substantial investments in artificial intelligence, saying, “We are transforming into an AI company. We are not creating large language models, but we are making AI agents.”
In this context, DT, harnessing the power of Perplexity, claimed that it will bring the AI Phone, which it alleges will fully utilize the power of artificial intelligence, to users. The company will officially introduce this device in the second half of 2025 and will make it available for sale in 2026. The new AI Phone will enable users to perform tasks such as making reservations, sending emails, sending messages, and making phone calls with voice commands. Additionally, other artificial intelligence partners such as Google Cloud AI, ElevenLabs, and Picsart will also be included in this phone.
According to a report based on Deutsche Telekom spokespersons by Ingrid Lunden, the mentioned phone will be sold at a price below 1000 euros despite using high technology. The company aims to offer products that are considered cheap in terms of price-performance to differentiate itself in the industry where powerful competitors like Apple and Samsung exist.
No details about the features of the device were shared in the press conference. Although there is no information yet on who will produce the device or which operating system it will use, the shared concept drawings drew attention for bearing significant resemblance to Android phones. It was noted that details such as hardware features related to the Artificial Intelligence Phone will be announced in the second half of 2025.
Perplexity will support DT in the field of artificial intelligence. Founded in 2022, the company rapidly achieved significant growth with the same-named artificial intelligence tool. Using large language models to search on the web and provide answers to users’ queries, Perplexity reached 250 million search queries per month last year.
With advocates like Jeff Bezos and Nvidia among its supporters, Perplexity AI aims to become a major player offering artificial intelligence support to smartphone manufacturers if successful in joint ventures with DT.
