Decrease in Global Food Prices

The world food prices declined in January with a decrease in sugar and vegetable oil prices. The world food prices dropped in January compared to the previous month, influenced by the sharp decline in sugar and vegetable oil prices. The world food price index, compiled by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) tracking monthly changes in cereals, oilseeds, dairy products, meat, and sugar prices, fell to 124.9 points in January, remaining 6.2% higher than the same month of the previous year. The index, which was announced as 127 in December, was not revised. Sugar prices decreased by 6.8% compared to the previous month and 18.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. While vegetable oil prices dropped by 5.6% on a monthly basis, they were 24.9% higher compared to the same month of the previous year.
