Decrease in Anchovy Leads to Increased Interest in Salmon

In Trabzon, as the anchovy supply dwindled at fish markets, consumers started to prefer salmon. At the fishmonger stalls in the Moloz area of Ortahisar district in Trabzon, there are options like horse mackerel, whiting, salmon, sea bass, bream, trout, and a limited amount of anchovies available. Fishmonger Emin Avcı mentioned that the poor weather conditions in the last week resulted in a decrease in the amount of fish caught from the sea. During Ramadan, Avcı stated that sea bass, whiting, and salmon were more popular choices, and he added: “We sell salmon for 175 liras per kilogram, sea bass and trout for 100 liras, bream for 300 liras, and horse mackerel and whiting for 200 liras. Some stalls still have anchovies, which are being sold for around 150 liras per kilogram. Anchovy season is considered over, and consumers are not preferring it much.”
