Date Announced for Turkmen Gas Supply

The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, provided a specific date for Turkmen gas. Minister Bayraktar stated that 1.3 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas will be supplied through Iran by the end of the year. He emphasized that diversifying Turkey’s gas supply from different countries has been a long-standing goal. Minister Bayraktar mentioned that this plan has been in the works for a long time, aiming to bring gas from Turkmenistan to Turkey. He stated, “We want to diversify Turkey’s gas supply and source it from different countries. This is part of our strategy.”
Minister Bayraktar highlighted that they have been able to import gas from various countries through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities for a while. However, for the first time in over 20 years, Turkey will receive gas from a country beyond its borders through a pipeline, marking a significant milestone. Although the plan dates back to the 1990s, Turkmenistan has not supplied even a single cubic meter of gas to Turkey for almost 30 years. Minister Bayraktar expressed hope that this will change by March 1.
