Construction Costs at Lowest Level in 4 Years

Construction costs rose by 26.61 percent on an annual basis in January. This led to the lowest level of construction cost inflation in four years. The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) released the construction cost index data for January. According to the data, the index increased by 9.1 percent compared to the previous month and by 26.61 percent compared to the same month last year. As a result, construction costs hit the lowest level in four years on an annual basis. Costs experienced the fastest monthly increase of the year. The material index rose by 1.96 percent monthly, while the labor index increased by 23.58 percent. On an annual basis, the material index showed a 22.39 percent increase, and the labor index rose by 34.37 percent. The building construction cost index surged by 9.39 percent in January compared to the previous month, showing a 27.09 percent increase from the same month last year. The material index increased by 1.91 percent compared to the previous month, whereas the labor index rose by 24.14 percent. Additionally, compared to the same month last year, the material index saw a rise of 23.28 percent, and the labor index increased by 33.76 percent. The construction cost index for non-building structures increased by 8.13 percent in January compared to the previous month, showing a 25.05 percent increase from the same month last year. In these structures, the material index rose by 2.14 percent compared to the previous month, while the labor index increased by 21.58 percent. Moreover, compared to the same month last year, the material index saw a rise of 19.67 percent, and the labor index increased by 36.65 percent.
