Commencement of Train Services from Van to Tehran

The passenger train from Van to Tehran will depart from Tehran today. The first journey from Van will take place tomorrow. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the passenger train from Van to Tehran will depart from Tehran today, with the first trip from Van scheduled for tomorrow. Uraloğlu recalled that the decision to resume the Van-Tehran passenger train services was made as a result of discussions with Iran. Highlighting the significance of the railway cooperation between Turkey and Iran in terms of enhancing regional transportation and increasing tourism mobility, Uraloğlu expressed that the resumption of Van-Tehran train services will further strengthen both economic and cultural ties.
There will be two reciprocal journeys per week, operated by the Iran Passenger Transportation Company (RAJA), using a train consisting of 7 couchette cars with a capacity of 40 passengers. Uraloğlu stated that the train in question will depart from Tehran today, and will leave from Van on Monday, March 10th bound for Tehran. The Van-Tehran passenger train will depart from Tehran on Sundays and Wednesdays, and from Van on Mondays and Thursdays. Passengers will enjoy a comfortable 22-hour journey by rail.
Uraloğlu noted that the Van-Tehran passenger train carried approximately 10,000 passengers during its operation in 2019 and 2020, until it was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized that this project is a significant step towards bolstering international collaborations in Turkey’s railway transportation sector.
