China Reports a $422 Billion Current Account Surplus

In China, the current account balance showed a surplus of $422 billion in 2024. The State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) of China disclosed the current account balance for the period of January-December 2024. The current balance, which represents the total income and expenditure balance in trade, services, investments, and current transfers, recorded a surplus of $422 billion throughout the year. During this period, a surplus of $767.9 billion was observed in trade, a deficit of $228.8 billion in services trade, a deficit of $131.9 billion in investments and foreign exchange inflows, and a surplus of $14.8 billion in current transfers. The current account surplus as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) stood at 2.2%.
