Cevdet Yılmaz’s statement on Halkbank: Negotiation process with the US will proceed

Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that after the customs tariffs, Turkey will undergo a negotiation process with the US. Yılmaz emphasized that the issue of Halkbank will also be addressed with the aim of a resolution. Speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and responding to questions from Bloomberg, Yılmaz stated, “We have been expressing our righteousness on this issue for many years. Previously, President Trump and our President have discussed these issues multiple times. I believe that in the upcoming periods, these issues will be discussed and debated both at the leadership level and at different levels. I believe that resolving these issues will be beneficial from the perspective of Turkey-US relations, economically, and in many other aspects.” Yılmaz recalled Trump’s positive personal views on this matter, stating, “In this new period, these issues will continue to be discussed at every level. Our hope and expectation is that these issues will be resolved and it will be more beneficial for both countries to leave behind these issues and focus on their actual agendas, being two strong allies in NATO with many economic, commercial, and other agendas.” Yılmaz emphasized that the impact analysis of customs tariffs will be discussed at the Economic Coordination Committee meeting, highlighting that the main goal with the US is a trade volume of $100 billion.
