In Turkey, the capacity mechanism support increased threefold to 13 billion liras in 2024. Allocated funds under the capacity mechanism implemented to ensure electricity supply security and support the sustainability of production plants in Turkey tripled in 2024 compared to the previous year, with natural gas power plants receiving the largest share of support. According to data from Turkey Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ), out of the total payment made throughout the year, 8.09 billion liras were allocated to natural gas power plants, 4.53 billion liras to domestic coal power plants, 218 million liras to imported and domestic natural gas power plants, and 157 million liras to imported and domestic coal power plants. Last year, the highest support payment for natural gas power plants, amounting to 1.21 billion liras, was made in December, while the largest payment for domestic coal power plants, totaling 653 million liras, was made in August. In total, around 4 billion liras were paid nationwide in 2023, increasing by 225% last year to reach approximately 13 billion liras. Consequently, during this period, capacity mechanism supports tripled.
