Call for Farmers’ Premium Payments

The President of the Turkish Agricultural Chambers Union, Şemsi Bayraktar, stated that farmers’ premium support payments should be made on time and in bulk. Şemsi Bayraktar, the President of the Turkish Agricultural Chambers Union (TZOB), made evaluations regarding farmers’ premium support payments. Bayraktar pointed out that last year’s premium support payments have been made in some provinces but are yet to be issued in others, emphasizing the importance of completing support payments as soon as possible. He also highlighted the need for the fertilizer and diesel support, which has not yet begun, to be paid promptly, stating, “Turkey’s ability to have a strong future in agriculture is possible with the support of our producers. As long as our farmers are supported, they will continue production, and as a result, our tables will continue to be abundant.” Emphasizing that agriculture is a strategic sector, Bayraktar underscored the vital importance of the support provided to the sector. Bayraktar noted that despite climate change, natural disasters, rising input costs, and market fluctuations, farmers continue to produce, saying, “Our farmers’ struggle can only be sustained with sufficient support mechanisms. Support for the agricultural sector not only ensures the welfare of our producers but also secures consumers’ access to healthy and affordable food. The current support system, where payments are spread out over the year in pieces and on different dates, negatively affects the economic power of our farmers. Support items such as fertilizer, diesel, and premium payments, as well as certified seeds, seedlings, and saplings, are paid at different times. Farmers experience economic difficulties due to incomplete support payments during the period when they need support the most, faced with rising input costs. For the sustainability of agricultural production and to prevent disruptions in the food supply chain, support must be paid on time and in bulk.”
