Blow to illicit cigarettes at Customs worth 886 million lira

Customs officials have prevented approximately 886 million lira worth of cigarette and tobacco smuggling in the past 5 years. The Ministry of Trade’s customs surveillance teams managed to prevent around 886.3 million lira worth of cigarette and tobacco smuggling in 5 years. According to the Ministry’s data, between 2020-2024, 20.4 million packs of cigarettes worth 472.2 million lira were seized. During the same period, approximately 1.3 million kilograms of illicit tobacco worth 214.9 million lira were confiscated. The value of the seized 113.8 million packs of cigarette papers during this period amounted to 90.1 million lira, while the value of 349.4 million cigarette filters seized was recorded at 109 million lira. As a result, within the framework of anti-smuggling efforts, approximately 886.3 million lira worth of cigarettes, tobacco, cigarette paper, and filters have been seized over 5 years.
