Apple Hit by Tax Blow: Will iPhone Prices Rise?

Apple, the US tech giant, faces difficulties due to custom taxes. The company’s market value has dropped by 300 billion dollars, marking one of the biggest losses on Wall Street. Significant increase in costs is expected due to the major part of production taking place in China. Experts warn that prices of several products, particularly the iPhone, might go up.

President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs have hit companies producing outside the US hard. One of the most affected by the balance-disrupting custom taxes is Apple. Analysts stated that if the costs arising from the custom taxes reflect on products, the price of the iPhone might increase by 30 to 40 percent. It’s still unclear if Apple will pass these costs on to customers.

300 BILLION DOLLARS WIPED OUT Apple largely manufactures iPhones in China. Trump imposed an additional 34% custom tax on products from China. China, in return, announced applying the same tax rate on US products.

Apple’s shares fell by 13% to 188.4 dollars last week. The market value of the tech giant dropped by 300 billion dollars after the announcement of the tariffs. WHAT WILL BE THE IPHONE PRICE? The company, which sells over 220 million iPhones annually, has major markets in the US, China, and Europe. In the US, iPhone 16 starts at 799 dollars. Experts said if Apple reflects its costs, the iPhone price might exceed 1142 dollars. The price of iPhone 16 Pro Max might go up from 1599 dollars to 2300 dollars. It’s estimated that the price of the iPhone E model, sold for 599 dollars, might rise to 856 dollars.

COST OF 40 BILLION DOLLARS It’s also in question whether any exemptions will be granted to Apple. Due to the tough stance of the Trump administration, experts see a low possibility of receiving an exemption like the previous years. The cost of custom taxes for Apple might reach 40 billion dollars. WILL PRICES RISE IN TURKEY? Last week, Apple increased the prices of iPhones and many products in Turkey.

Due to the price hikes, the lowest-priced iPhone model reached 49,999 Turkish Lira, while the most expensive model reached 109,999 Turkish Lira. It’s still unknown whether Apple products in Turkey will see a rise in prices following Trump’s tariff announcement.

However, possible price movements in the US directly affect the company’s products worldwide.
