Exporters from the Southeast, covering 68.8% of Turkey’s pasta exports, are aiming to exceed 1 million tons in foreign sales this year. According to the Southeastern Anatolia Exporters’ Associations (GAİB) data, Turkey achieved revenue of 939 million 513 thousand dollars from 1 million 457 thousand 862 tons of pasta exported last year. Southeastern pasta exporters, accounting for 68.8% of this export, sold 1 million 23 thousand 436 tons of pasta last year, earning 608 million 596 thousand dollars. Southeastern exporters, starting the new year strong, obtained revenue of 95 million 42 thousand dollars from 162 thousand 565 tons of foreign sales in the January-February period, increasing their exports by 7.6% compared to the same period last year. Celal Kadooğlu, President of the Southeastern Anatolia Cereals Pulses Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, mentioned that Turkey’s pasta exports in the first two months of the year amounted to 144 million dollars. Kadooğlu noted that Turkey possesses the world’s highest quality durum wheat and a competitive production infrastructure, stating, “This is a great advantage for both Turkey and regional countries. As Southeastern Anatolia, we export half the amount of pasta Italy exports annually. With our price-performance quality, we continuously expand our influence in the African market.” Highlighting that a significant portion of pasta exports goes to countries like Ghana, Togo, and Benin, Kadooğlu stated, “We export to members of the Economic Community of West African States. As we enter different markets and reach larger populations, our export volume consistently grows. We believe that our pasta exports, which reached 162 thousand tons in the first 2 months, will exceed 1 million tons this year.” Kadooğlu pointed out that despite experiencing the lowest precipitation in February in Southeastern Anatolia in the 2000s, there were no issues affecting pulse production, and there were no problems in the fields that would impact product quality.
