Trump to Reduce Prescription Drug Prices: Patients Could See Up to 60% Discount

President Trump has signed a new decree to lower prescription drug prices in the United States. It is expected that this action will pave the way for price reductions of up to 60% for patients.

President Donald Trump issued a new decree instructing the reduction of prescription drug prices.

In a statement regarding the decree, it was stated, “The message is clear: The executive branch will no longer stand idly by while pharmaceutical manufacturers in our country demand higher fees for the same prescription drugs, often produced in the same location, from patients in other countries.” The decree assigns Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. to standardize payments for prescription drugs covered by the Medicare system, including cancer patients, regardless of where the patient receives treatment.

It is anticipated that this move will open the door to price reductions of up to 60% for patients. Furthermore, hospitals could achieve savings of up to 35% in drug costs. The decree also foresees price reductions for insulin and allergy drugs targeted at low-income patients.

RISING ABOVE INFLATION The US Department of Health and Human Services estimates that prescription drug prices have increased by an average of 15% in recent years, with nearly half of these drugs experiencing price hikes exceeding the inflation rate.

The Trump administration asserts that the dismissal of around 10,000 employees in the health ministry and the imposition of taxes on imported drugs will not affect the implementation of the decree.
