The Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) announced that the market share of the two insurance companies with suspended operations was low and necessary measures have been taken. Following the suspension of operations of AcnTurk Sigorta AŞ and Arex Sigorta AŞ, SEDDK reported that the market share of these companies was low and necessary measures have been taken to compensate for their existing claims files. The statement from SEDDK emphasized the industry’s integrity and strong capital structure, stating, “The insurance sector continues to operate in a reliable, stable, and effective manner, consistent with international standards, particularly in terms of equity profitability, capital, and asset sufficiency indicators.” The statement also highlighted concerns regarding misleading and speculative news or posts in some media outlets casting doubt on the sector’s financial resilience and reputation, noting that the limited market share of these companies, totaling 0.8%, and their individual circumstances are being overlooked. The statement revealed that, “Given the current situation, necessary financial and organizational measures have been taken to ensure the swift payment of compensations related to ‘existing claims files’ in the companies whose operations have been suspended to prevent policyholders from experiencing any hardship. Additionally, findings from our regulatory activities at these companies are being forwarded to judicial authorities, as well as other institutions responsible for overseeing and regulating the financial sector, according to their authority.” The agency also stated that developments related to the matter will continue to be shared with the public in the spirit of transparency and accountability.
