Turkish Lira-based Foreign Trade Approaches 335 Billion Liras

Turkish lira-based foreign trade increased by 30.1 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching 334 billion 820 million liras. According to the Ministry of Trade data, last month saw the second-highest export value in March with 23.4 billion dollars. There was also an increase in exports in Turkish lira during this period, with a noticeable rise for three consecutive months. In January, Turkish lira-based exports reached 26 billion 324 million liras, a 20.5 percent increase from the same month last year. Imports also rose by 47.2 percent in the first month, reaching 70 billion 319 million liras. Thus, the foreign trade volume in the first month of the year reached 96 billion 643 million liras. In the second month of the year, the increase in Turkish lira-based foreign trade continued. Exports in that month reached 28 billion 276 million liras, a 12.3 percent increase from February last year, while imports recorded a 19.2 percent rise to 84 billion 19 million liras. The foreign trade volume surpassed 112 billion 294 million liras. Turkish lira-based exports in March increased by 15.9 percent from the same month in 2024, reaching 30 billion 538 million liras, while imports also increased by 45.1 percent to 95 billion 346 million liras. Thus, Turkish lira-based foreign trade in March exceeded 125 billion 883 million liras. Exporting in Turkish lira was carried out to 164 countries in January-March this year, increasing by 16.1 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 85 billion 137 million liras from 73 billion 354 million liras. During this period, imports also increased by 35.7 percent from 183 billion 991 million liras to 249 billion 683 million liras. Thus, in the first quarter of 2025, foreign trade in this category increased by 30.1 percent from 257 billion 345 million liras to 334 billion 820 million liras. In addition, in March, exports in Turkish lira were made to 164 countries, with 37,662 companies utilizing Turkish lira for external sales.
