Vice President Yilmaz: Unemployment Rate Beyond the OVP Target

Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz announced that the unemployment rate saw an improvement beyond the OVP target, reaching 8.7% in 2024. Evaluating the labor force statistics for 2024 released by the Turkish Statistical Institute on his social media account, Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz emphasized the increase in labor force participation, decrease in unemployment, and the continuation of economic job creation. Yilmaz stated, “The unemployment rate decreased to 8.7% in 2024, reaching the lowest level since 2012, surpassing the OVP target. Our employment increased by approximately 1 million people, reaching 32.6 million in 2024.” Highlighting the rise in labor force participation among women and youth, Yilmaz expressed satisfaction with the decline in unemployment, saying, “We expect our economy to further strengthen with continued increases in employment, especially among women and youth. Ensuring the welfare and purchasing power of our citizens, supporting producers, and maintaining price stability are our top priorities.” Yilmaz added, “With the economic predictability we provide, political stability, and our investment, employment, production, and export-oriented approach, we are confidently progressing towards our macroeconomic goals in 2025. Turkey’s future will be bright with its strong economy and decisive policies. We will continue to work tirelessly day and night for a stronger, more prosperous Turkey together.”
