Howells has been struggling for a long time to recover the hard drive containing the 8,000 Bitcoins. It was reported that the recycling and waste facility located in Newport will be closed. According to BBC News, a council spokesman announced that the site will be closed down in a planned manner over the next two years. Howells claims that his former partner accidentally threw away a hard drive containing 8,000 BTC in 2013. The mentioned amount of BTC is worth $780 million as of today. Howells initiated a legal battle to find the lost Bitcoins but his request was rejected due to environmental concerns. It was stated that excavating 100,000 tons of landfill is required for this rescue attempt. The 8,000 Bitcoins represent approximately 13% of the current supply.
