35% Increase in Natural Gas Consumption in Residences

The natural gas consumption in residences increased by 35% in December last year, reaching 3 billion 71 million 450 thousand cubic meters. According to the “Natural Gas Market Sector Report” of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority for December of last year, 4 billion 424 million 710 thousand cubic meters of imports were made through pipeline, and 2 billion 939 million 460 thousand cubic meters through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities. The total natural gas import reached 7 billion 364 million 170 thousand cubic meters in December last year, a 21.5% increase compared to the same month of the previous year. The highest natural gas imports in December were made from Russia with 2 billion 835 million 170 thousand cubic meters, followed by Azerbaijan with 1 billion 37 million 370 thousand cubic meters, and Iran with 552 million 170 thousand cubic meters. During this period, natural gas imports were made from the United States with 2 billion 5 million 570 thousand cubic meters, Algeria with 346 thousand 880 cubic meters, Equatorial Guinea with 207 thousand 740 cubic meters, Russia with 198 thousand 210 cubic meters, Nigeria with 94 million 740 thousand cubic meters, and Norway with 86 thousand 320 cubic meters of LNG. TOTAL GAS CONSUMPTION IN RESIDENCES INCREASED BY 35% The total natural gas consumption in the country increased by 32% annually in December 2024, reaching 6 billion 963 million 420 thousand cubic meters. The natural gas consumption by the industrial sector increased by 4.5% to 1 billion 263 million 610 thousand cubic meters. Natural gas consumption in power plants increased by 87.85% to 1 billion 393 million 500 thousand cubic meters. The natural gas consumption in residences increased by 35% in December last year, reaching 3 billion 71 million 450 thousand cubic meters. Turkey’s natural gas stock volume decreased by approximately 9%, reaching about 4 billion 950 million 860 thousand cubic meters in December last year compared to the same month of the previous year. Approximately 4 billion 535 million 470 thousand cubic meters of natural gas stock is in underground storage facilities, while 415 million 390 thousand cubic meters are in LNG terminals.
