1.52 Trillion Lira Paid with Cards

In February, the total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards increased by 50% compared to the same month last year, reaching 1 trillion 522.8 billion lira.

The Interbank Card Center (BKM) announced the data for February. As of February, the number of credit cards in Turkey reached 131.2 million, debit cards 196.9 million, and prepaid cards 114.5 million. When compared to the same period last year, the number of credit cards increased by 9%, debit cards by 3%, and prepaid cards by 25%. The total number of cards in February reached 442.6 million, increasing by 10% compared to the same month last year. In February, the total payment amount made with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards also increased by 50%, reaching 1 trillion 522.8 billion lira compared to the same period last year. Out of the total card payments, 1 trillion 288.2 billion lira was made with credit cards, 203.6 billion lira with debit cards, and 31 billion lira with prepaid cards. The growth rate in payments made with credit cards was 53%, with debit cards 35%, and with prepaid cards 63% compared to the same period last year.

Out of 5 card payments, 4 were contactless. The total number of payments made in February with credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid cards increased by 5% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.43 billion. Of these, 821.6 million payments were made with credit cards, 494 million with debit cards, and 113.5 million with prepaid cards. The growth rate in the number of payments made with credit cards was 8%, with debit cards 1%, and with prepaid cards 6% compared to the same period last year. Online card payments increased by 51% compared to the same period last year, reaching 443.9 billion lira. The share of online card payments in the total amount reached 29%. The number of online card payments increased by 2% compared to the same period last year, reaching 208 million, accounting for 15% of total payments. The number of contactless payments made with cards increased by 10% compared to the same period last year, reaching 938.9 million. The amount of contactless payments increased by 66% compared to the same period last year, reaching 482 billion lira. In February, 4 out of every 5 in-store card payments were contactless.
